Zeitgeist… ‘Woman’ Spirit of the Age.

Inchoate though her ideas are thought to be

And zealous her passions deemed,

Impetuous she’s told are her heart, her souls desires

Because equality is of what she dreams.

Though daily she is chased by life, by man

And resolutely told to mind her place,

She cannot neglect the gifts she has

That would help transform the human race.

And so picking up her shield of justice

Raising her sword of faith, of truth,

She sets forth upon her journey

To verify her place, reveal the proof.

That her life it has great meaning

And her voice needs to be heard,

And to force her to live a life subservient

Is totally nonsensical, it’s absurd.

For she has been created, commissioned

To ensure man is not alone,

Not so she could fetch and mend and carry

Not so she can cook and clean his home.

But to walk with him an equal

An ally, a trusted colleague, a friend,

A life partner for all seasons

Someone on whom he can depend.

But man’s fears see only difference

See only a stranger in female guise,

His lust for power and position sees only opponent

Sees only a victim, or trophy, a prize.

Man never sees her as he truly ought

As one with her own purpose, her own mind,

He never sees her for what she is really worth

And thus to life’s true meaning he remains completely blind.

Enough Said?

Standard

enough said

 Enough Said?

The more advanced our communication

The less and less we seem to speak,

The less we try to comprehend

The less we question, the less we seek.

More content with jibes and with banter

Strangers in time we have all become,

Preferring instead to embellish, assume

It seems the truth we’ve outrun.

And in our life without a purpose

Without a passion, without a care,

It’s like we’ve lost our sense of reason

Bound up, enticed by powers stare.

The whisperings of mindless gossip

Keep us quenched, give us our fill,

The sideward smiles, the nods and the winks

Should have us running or at least questioning the bill.

But we don’t want to ask the questions

Nor rock the boat or take the risk,

And so we say what we think folk want most to hear

It’s a bit like the truth…if you get the gist?

The more advanced our communication

The less and less we seem to talk,

The less we want to understand

The less we face up to the lies that we’ve bought.

More content to let life go unnoticed

More content to wear a mask,

More at ease with pain and illusion

More content to do, not ask.

And though each day we have stirrings

Of a memory that’s long since forgot,

Of a time that we loved to share

Tell stories and talk such a lot.

Of a time when we together

Lived our lives as they should be,

Lost in awe, truth and wonder

Working out together our life’s destiny.

The more advanced our communication

The more and more we lose our way,

The less we think about the price, the consequence

The less we care or hear what others say.

Undo you…

To live that one perfect day

remove the battery, from the clock.

Leave your phone uncharged,

tell all those thoughts to stop —

Undo that tie, let loose

your hair, put on your old,

but comfy jeans. Pour yourself

a coffee, employ more mindful

means. Dance like a sea

of firecrackers, sing with all

your spirit, heart and soul —

Unleash the beauty of your

smile, let go the need to be

in control.

Unset the table —

Post the bills

back through the door.

Give the car a day off, put

the compass, back in the drawer.

Find a spot to sit in

By a river, under a tree.

Wiggle your toes, read a good book

allow yourself to simply be —

Another Day Someday

Standard

another day someday

Another Day Someday

The theory behind me learning to paint was that eventually I would be able to illustrate my own books, initially my poetry books and eventually my children’s books. I have a truly wonderful teacher Lucinda, who is as patient as a saint and incredibly gifted, which helps massively. Having said that I’m not going to lie the learning process has been (and still is if I’m honest!), quite literally like watching paint dry. I am not always the most patient person, I expected to be an old master day on one. You may be surprised to hear that I’m not quite there yet.  However the good news is for every ten or more paintings that end up in the bin, every so often I pleasantly surprise myself with something that’s not too shabby. But enough about me, I want to know more about you, what’s on your to do list?  What have you always wanted to learn how to do? Cook fine food, speak another language, travel, paint, sail, write, belly dance? Maybe you would love to go to University? Maybe you’d love to run for your local council? Maybe you would dearly love to adopt a child?

Whatever it is can I be bold and ask you what it is you’re waiting for? Who keeps on encouraging you to wait? You? Time? Life? Money? Fear? Apathy?

My new book is entitled ‘Another Day Someday’, it asks us all these kinds of questions and so much more. It challenges us to think why we do say I’ll do it another day, maybe someday I’ll…. It begs us to go deeper than skin deep, to push our own self-inflicted boundaries, limitations aside, to seek out those long held to dreams, hidden on dusty shelves within the recess of our own minds.  It reminds each of us that today is our another day, it is our someday. It’s your another day, your someday and whatever you do I just don’t think you should waste it…

Poetry in the frame.

‘Poetry in the frame’ is my very latest collection of thoughts and photographs.

Like my previous works of this nature, ‘Poetry in the frame’ is a collection of simple thoughts and images, written and produced specifically to help and encourage you daily, along life’s ever changing, ever more demanding highways and byways. I sincerely hope they help you not only take time to breathe, to be a little more mindful of the incredible life and beauty all around you, but also to be a little less hard on yourself as you continue finding your way home. Because this life is an untameable ocean to traverse of the best of days and if I can perhaps just walk with you a while, help carry your load, even in such a small way, then that to me is a shared and most beautiful blessing for us both.

All that is left for me to say is, it is my very great honour and privilege to be able to share with you a little ‘Poetry in the frame’. I hope that you enjoy what you see and what you read and I pray that they bless, edify, inspire and bring love, peace, joy and healing to your heart and to your soul….  © Tracey Odessa Kane Author Poet.

Beatitudes

Standard

Beatitudes

Beatitudes

When life hands you something messy, something fractured, broken torn,

When it stacks the odds against you, from the moment that you’re born.

When life builds a wall around you, that it’s so high you cannot see,

When it clips your wings and leaves you grounded, so you cannot fly, be free.

When life takes away your reason, casts your purpose to the wind,

When it tears apart your gifts, when your talents are slayed and skinned.

When life dances on your spirit and pokes fun at all you say,

When it tries to purge you of your mind, when it drags your very soul away.

Neither fear the raging battle, nor the gun poised at your head,

Fear not the barrage of angry words, the hot coals upon which you’re forced to tread.

Fear not the dark clouds looming, waiting to drench your life in rain,

Fear not the evil perpetrators, sent to laden you with their guilt, their shame.

Fear not their weak and gutless tactics, nor the muscles that they flex,

Fear not their wealth, their power, the life they live with rosy specs.

Fear not the road before you, be it grim and poorly lit,

Fear not your empty pockets, nor the shoes that barely fit.

For yours yet will be the kingdom, full of wonder, full of grace,

For yours will be the mountain top, the smile upon your face.

Yours will be the moon and stars, the river gently flowing by,

Yours will be the strength, to rise again have one more try.

Yours will be the laughter and the hope within your heart,

Yours will be the sunshine and the courage throughout the dark.

Yours will be the melody, the love of which you’ll sing,

Yours will be the faith, the trust, the knowledge that they bring.

Yours will be the promised prize, at the end of this your race,

Yours will be the ability, to see the truth and beauty of this place.

Yours will be the rainbow, that arc’s across the sky,

Yours will be the answers, to every question why.

Yours will be the life well lived, in spite of all the odds,

Yours will be the life at one, with the will, the heart of Gods.

A million reasons why

Standard

a million reasons why

A million reasons why

There are a million reasons why try

One reason that we do or die,

Two hands to wipe a tear struck eye

One heart to heave a heavy sigh.

We have two arms to hold embrace

Two legs to help us win the race,

A host of doors slammed in our face

One or two who set the pace.

There are five senses we can call

One brain to understand it all,

One bottom there to take the fall

One nose to press up to the wall.

So many minutes in one day

So many hours come what may,

So many years to go astray

Too many parts in life’s great play.

There are a million reasons why we try

I’ve listed but a few,

Yet the single greatest one I’ve missed

Is the love between just two.

My Bowl Does Runneth Over

Standard

live from worktown

I wrote this poem about Bolton, the beautiful town where I live.

I was delighted when ‘Live from Worktown’ picked it to go in their 2016 Anthology.

My Bowl Does Runneth Over

You don’t see the heart working away underneath the clothes,

Deep beneath the skin, right under your nose. But it’s there

Willing and able, alive, pumping hard, filling every vein, feeding

Every organ, muscle, cell, again and again and again. Pouring

Its life force freely into all it reaches out to and connects, giving

Of itself so completely, so resolutely, showing great kindness

And respect. Love by any other name, the most precious

Jewel of all, way beyond beautiful.

This is the heart of Bolton.

You don’t see the genius steeped in industry, as it toils

In the mills, as it changes the course of history, with

It’s innovation, its creative skills. And yet from this bowl

That runneth over, comes forth such a page of history, crammed

Pack full of stories the likes of which, became the foundations

Of all we now see. Education championed, slavery fought against

Abolished, fairly traded goods abound, the rights of women and

Children flourished.

This is the soul of Bolton.

You don’t see the strength of character, from all the stories

In the news, nor do you see the depth of friendship, the way

Of hope the people choose. But it’s there all around you, in all

The faces that you see, that sense of freedom and of justice, that

Sense of peace, equality. A home for all faiths and none to come

Together, a place of refuge, of sanctuary. One Heart, One Soul,

Only One Bolton, side by side, One Family.

This is The Spirit of Bolton.
