More Than Just April’s Fool…

Standard

more than just

More Than Just April’s Fool…

When the miracle of life ceases to amaze you,

When you no longer see the stars,

When strangers make you want to scream,

And all you see when you look at your life are scars.

When laughter makes you cringe,

When sunshine drives you mad,

When love to you is but a kiss of death,

When you believe that kindness is sad.

When giving makes you angry,

When justice and liberty make you sick,

When forgiveness to you is but a crutch for fools,

When the joy of life is like a daily kick.

When beauty to you looks like a muddy puddle,

When grace sends you running for the hills,

When empathy it does repulse you,

When fun to you means popping pills.

When courage makes you shiver,

When faith makes your skin crawl,

When truth you’d sell for lies,

When you love to trip folk, make them fall.

When the ocean leaves you wanting,

When the present just makes you want to die,

When possibility to you is but a joke,

When you laugh at those who dare to try.

Then yours is but a sorry tale

Full of fear and lessons cruel,

Full of the kind of thoughts and actions

That make you, more than just April’s fool.

Eight Years Old and a Bride

Standard

8 years

Figures from UNICEF estimate that there are 39,000 child marriages every single day.

Furthermore it estimates that more than 140 million girls will marry between 2011 & 2020

Of the 140 million girls who will marry before the age of 18,

50 million will be under the age of 15.

Eight Years Old and a Bride

Through aching non-subtleties of gender distain

She lives her life without complaint,

For long since past she came to recognise

‘Tis but her form that man does prize.

Thus through his shadow cold and dark

She finds no way to live embark,

For duty to him is her only given

And her sole purpose in life is male-driven.

She dare not speak or have her say

Must on demand her body lay,

She must not dream, not raise her head

She must soothe his ails and keep him fed.

Never must she go out alone

Talk to another, her name be known,

No questions need be ever asked

For that is simply not her task.

No books should ever be seen or read

No knowledge shall enter into her head,

No education for this child

No opportunity to let her thoughts run wild.

For she is but a paid-for bride

A token of man’s sinful pride,

A shell of who she out to be

Enslaved by his profanity.

Enchained by all life deems she’s worth

And alien on this great earth,

Raped of sense and sensibility

Driven by fear enforced by he.

Beaten just because his can

Devoid of strength, support, a plan,

She lives her life a subordinate

Shown no mercy left to fate.

Not knowing how all this will end

And why she never had a friend,

She wonders why she does not belong

And why all the good people don’t think it’s wrong.

Woman

Standard

woman

Woman

When you stole the light from her eyes

When you trampled upon the peace in her soul,

When you consumed the joy in her heart

When you used up her mind took control.

Did you know what you were thinking?

Was each pawn taken a part of your plan?

Was each piece stripped as a means to her end?

Was she truly such a threat towards man?

When you tore the strength from her spirit

When you smothered her hope gentleness,

When you cut open dissected her will

When you forced her to yield, to undress.

Did you know what you were doing?

Was each strike meant to cause her such pain?

Was each lash meant to cut her so deeply?

Was it you goal to break her to drive her insane.

When you ripped the child from her womb

When you starved her, cut off all her hair,

When you forced her to perform for you friends

When you defiled her till her blood and her beauty ran bare.

Did you know how you were acting?

Was this the only route you could take?

Was this the full extent of your purpose?

Was it just her that your actions forsake?

When you stole the light from her eyes

When you beat to death the woman and all she could be,

Did you know as she gasped for her last breath?

That hers was the real victory.

For in her death she found freedom

She found solace, she found love liberty,

But what did you have ‘n hold at the end of it all

But an overdue bill owed to Satan, his fee.

Anonymous . . . The Eulogy Of.

Standard

anymous

Dedicated to all those voices who spoke out over the centuries, in so many ways, about so many things, but whose names on the whole remain anonymous to us even now (mainly because so many of them were women), yet whose words we often quote time and again, using their most famous signature Anonymous, Anon, Unknown.

Anonymous . . . The Eulogy Of.

All I had to say of time my dear, that was No friend of mine,

From first breath of air, till final gasp, my life felt at odds with one divine.

And from cowering in corners, to dancing on life’s stage,

From sharing the thoughts my heart did think, it seems my life caused much outrage.

From mother’s arms, to father’s knee I sensed no loss of Love,

From the first song I sang, to last climbed tree, life was always knife in velvet glove.

And although I pondered tried my best, to embrace the thoughts from east to West,

It was deemed and thus agreed upon, that I’d failed every single test.

And so awash, set free, named useless, I picked up my pen and did duly write,

My thoughts, my contemplations, my discernments, wrong or right.

For although it seemed there was No place in this great life for me,

The pen in hand dared to imply, to write was my destiny.

And so after much discussion the pen and I declared…

Here are the words we could not say while life left speech impaired.

And you may choose to look not see, to listen but not hear,

You may dismiss my cause, concerns, the things I deeply fear.

But you can never say again, there goes that waste of life,

For this fool she leaves gifts of words to you. . . Because that is her life’s purpose, her Sacrifice.

Ignorance is Not Bliss… It’s Just Ignorance.

Standard

ignorance-is-not-bliss

Ignorance is Not Bliss. . . It’s Just Ignorance. (first blogged August 2013).

I feel wicked sleeping in a warm bed, while my dearest friends have been knocked down or have fallen into a gutter somewhere out in the cold night. I get frightened when I think of close friends who have now been delivered into the hands of the cruellest brutes that walk the earth. And all because they are Jews!”  ― Anne Frank, the Diary of a Young Girl

Recently whilst waiting for a friend of mine I was privy to a conversation between two people who were talking about the events of the 2nd world war. As neither were anywhere near the age that one would have to be, to have actually physically been there, I realised they were talking either from their own perceptions/understanding of what they had been taught, from their own assumptions, hear say, or perhaps from what they had read (though I find this hard to believe, because one would seriously have to alter, misinterpret, misunderstand anything that’s ever been written or carved onto the pages of history), as opposed to having first-hand insight/knowledge. Without wanting to go into each and every aspect of the conversation, with its entire mind bending content, the basic gist of the conversation was this . . . the Holocaust didn’t happen!!

Words failed me then and to be totally honest they still fail me now…
