“You said yourself there was no evidence of a break in, your just grasping at straws, trying to pin this on me.” Ray Bennett was indignant. Outside Chief Inspector Watson and his colleagues were struggling to make a decision; they knew he’d killed her but without the evidence…

They had a short time left before they needed to charge or release him. Everything hung on that chewed up cassette tape. Would it work?

The silence was piercing… so was Edna Brown’s voice explaining that she would leave a key if Ray promised to post it back through the letter box.
