International Women’s Day 2017… #BeBoldForChange

“A free race cannot be born of slave mothers.” – Margaret Higgins Sanger

“Extremists have shown what frightens them the most: a girl with a book.” – Malala Yousafzai

“How can we effect change in the world when only half of it is invited or feel welcome to participate in the conversation?” — Emma Watson

“We’ve begun to raise daughters more like sons… but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters.” ― Gloria Steinem

“There is a special place in hell for women who do not help other women.” — Madeleine K. Albright

“Remember the dignity of your womanhood. Do not appeal, do not beg, do not grovel. Take courage, join hands, stand besides us, fight with us.” — Christabel Pankhurst

Just a handful of quotes from an amazing group of women, women who all understand that while the voice of womankind throughout the world continues to be silenced, to go unheard, the dream of liberty, freedom and equality for all will remain but a dream and nothing more. Real democracy is not, should not be the sole reward of one half of the world’s population. Women have as much right to all the opportunities, benefits, liberties and freedom’s that have been, and continue to be, afforded to their male counterparts since time immemorial.

For women and girls everywhere life is not so very different than it was in the dark ages, fighting tooth and nail, to all but justify their very existence, and yet we claim to be, indeed we call ourselves civilised.

Every twenty minutes a woman is raped in India. All over the world rape is used as a means of coercion, degradation, torcher, control, in the game of war, man’s game of war. Women and children are taken from their homes and they are trafficked for sex all over the not so civilised world. Domestic violence and abuse are more prevalent today than ever. Predators wonder around blatantly under the very noses of the watching world, often using the guise of charity, robes of power, even robes of holiness and yet no one does a thing.

As we think about International Women’s Day 2017 today, let us not just be content to celebrate what we have been able to achieve so far under these historic and unyielding circumstances. For as incredible as it has been in the grand scheme of things we have taken but a single step on a long, long road.

Women everywhere need us to be all that we can be, they need us to work together, to raise our voice in unison, to make a stand, to carry on the good work of all of those who have gone before us. Therefore let us fix our eyes and all that remains to be done and together let us all make the world the kind of place we all know and dream that it can be.

Order, Order.

She may be missing from histories pages

She may be absent from memorial walls,

She may be non-existent in man’s tales of valour

She may be invisible up and down life’s great halls.
