The Disenchanted Life.

Standard

the disenchanted life

The Disenchanted Life.

Pragmatic is, I fear, thy sight and sound,

And to thee all doth concur,

No whimsical flavour taints life’s dish,

No alternate view doth once occur.

For the paint brush thy hath wrought on life,

Hath dishevelled its real charms,

And the quill with which thy tell its tales,

Leaves it wanton seeking alms.

Yet never once doth it pose, nor dawn on thee,

That thine vast opinion could be wrong,

A philosophical or more idealistic thought,

In thine head doth not belong.

For though rich it may be this life we have,

And filled with all things good,

Thy cup ye bare is ever half empty,

Thus the trees remain obscured by the wood.

As We Breathe, So May We Live?

Standard

as we breathe

As We Breathe, So May We Live?

When love runs out of road,

And hope runs out of time,

And peace runs out of reason,

And faith runs out in one divine,

I cannot help but wonder,

What really brought us here?

What tales did we listen to?

What truly caused our fears?

I cannot help but ask these questions

In my desire to seek, to find a clue,

In my longing to try and understand

Exactly who is fooling who.

For our lives are but a moment

And our story’s but a page,

And to waste it, fail to pen it,

Is really anything but sage.

Just to discard life, to destroy it

Seems like the path that we did choose,

Yet in our foolish contemplations

We suppose it’s merely our neighbours who only lose.

We don’t imagine for a minute

That it is us who miss out too,

When we live boxed up in comfort,

When we fail to do what we can do.

We don’t believe there’s rhyme or reason

To why we should even bother, care;

We don’t seek equality, freedom, justice,

We don’t see the need to love, to share.

We don’t worry about our children watching

The true example that we set —

Indeed we see it as a victory,

Like our aims, objectives have been met.

We pat ourselves upon our backs,

We shake our own hands and smile with glee,

Professing that they’re a chip off of the old block,

The me I never dared — I failed — to be.

We don’t pause to stop acknowledge,

That we should have given them so much more,

That we could have truly changed the world,

Lead by example, given love the floor.

And now the depth of cost that lingers

Like a millstone around our necks,

Bleeding us dry of sense and sensibility,

Obliterating our lives, like repeated train wrecks.

Till in the end we submissively give up,

Purely alive waiting only to die,

Filled with guilt, remorse and shame,

Living without once giving, life a try.

Up To the Surface

Standard

upto the surface

Up To the Surface

And the truth shall rise up to the surface

And bless us again with its grace,

And capture our hearts so completely

That unconditional love will take place.

And the road to the light shall we tread on

And our feet never more will be worn,

And the blisters and bruising and bleeding

Will like dark fade away with the dawn.

And the joy we have banished from inside us

And the pain we have suffered so long,

And the cruel winter in cold desperation

Shall at last be replaced by spring’s song.

And the journey up hill, towards the furnace

And the swim across the poisonous sea,

And the perilous stint in the desert

Can now be made clear so at last we can see.

That the way to our glorious future

Is not the one that is littered with gold,

It’s the one full of hope, understanding

And having faith in what we have and we hold.

The shadow he casts.

Standard

crosby 3

The shadow he casts.

Will you ever truly learn to live, to love,

Will you ever actually look and choose to see,

That the pain and fear inside your heart,

It stems from what he, wanted you to be.

Will you ever once try to understand,

The hidden depths of your own soul,

Will you ever find the strength, have courage,

To question that truth, to which you cleave to, control.

Will you ever once look in the mirror,

Discover why you are here, at this point today,

Will you ever dare to acknowledge your true self?

And the part in your failings, that you, yourself play.

Will you ever be more than a conqueror?

More than an anti-hero, an opinionated man,

Will you ever once stop and just listen,

Or was listening never part of your plan.

Will you ever seek to consider,

The constructive dismissals you so readily make,

Will you ever endeavour to make amends?

Or are you more at ease with all things untrue, fake.

Will you ever face up to your own lies, misgivings?

Will you ever confess to your sin?

Will you ever own up to the fact that your wrong,

Will you ever let your healing begin?

Will you ever admit you’ve been played?

Or will vested interest ever stand in your way,

Will you ever be bound all the days of your life?

To the shadow of a man and all that he could not say.

Write Your Best Story

Standard

write your best story

Your Mission should you choose to accept it; to leave the world a better place today than you found it in. Don’t ask questions you don’t really want the answers to, don’t pretend to be engaged with those around you when you’re not, don’t act like you care when you don’t. Life is not about putting on the best performance, it’s not about just going through the motions, and it’s about being present, making a difference, creating a legacy of hope. It’s about ploughing the field so that others benefit, writing the beginnings of a great story that others can add to…T. Odessa Kane Author Poet.

Write Your Best Story

Behold the dreamer

Who seizes the dream,

Hats off to the thanks givers

Who understand all life means.

Champion the care bringer

Who heals and restores,

Acknowledge the teacher

Who does not seek applause.

Give thanks to the child

Who gently reminds,

Praise all the thinkers

Who open our minds.

Show some respect and listen

To those with experience to share,

Offer kindness, thanksgiving

To those who work to make all things, equal and fair.

Be humble to those

Who toil through the night,

Give thanks to those

Who fight the good fight.

Be gracious to those

Who take time to learn,

Say thank you to those

Who patiently wait their turn.

Always bless and pray for

Both the friend and the foe,

Be ever prepared

To learn and to grow.

Write your best story

With tenacity, grace,

Live the life that you dream of

Run with passion your race.

No Fear!

Standard

no fear

No Fear!

I will not chase the stars away

For fear of growing young,

I will not pack away my joy

For fear of getting strong.

I will not bid the sun farewell

For fear of getting warm,

I will not shun time’s passing moments

For fear of each new morn.

I will not withdraw my love for life

For fear of getting hurt,

I will not empty myself of graciousness

For fear of scoundrels who throw dirt.

I will not turn and walk away

For fear of standing on my own,

I will not raise my fist, strike out in pain

For fear no solace will be shown.

I will not cease entertaining angels

For fear of taking on their scent,

I will not turn my back on justice

For fear it will cost me more than what I give up for lent.

I will not paint over life’s rainbows

For fear of promises not being kept,

I will not cling onto a mere legend

For fear the real truth cannot be met.

I will not scorn others colour, creed

For fear that it’s different from my own,

I will not sell of all my dreams

For fear of dreaming them alone.

I will not turn away a stranger

For fear of sharing the little that I possess,

I will not cease to show compassion

For fear it does not heal, redress.

I will not justify my own-self

For fear of your lies ringing true,

I will not cuss the gift, today

For fear of not fitting in with you.

I will not give up on life’s true beauty

For fear of dancing in the rain,

I will not give up on grace and wonder

For fear of hatred, fear pain.

I will not seek out creams and potions

For fear of getting old,

I will not hold onto my shoes

For fear of my own feet getting cold.

I will not laugh in the face of purpose

For fear of my God given call,

I will not wilfully hurt another

For fear of them having it all.

I will not mock another’s journey

For fear that their grass is greener than mine,

I will not turn my back on duty

For fear I’ll step onto a mine.

I will not drink myself into a stupor

For fear of the truth so plain to see,

I will not sell my soul to Satan

For fear that Christ’s love does not come free.

I will not live in darkness

For fear of living in the light,

I will not just stay silent

For fear of fighting the good fight.

I will not fear the road before me

For fear of what I’m sure to find,

I will not live without my heart

For fear it will seek to rule my mind.

I will not chase the stars away

I will not bid the sun farewell,

I will not believe it is impossible

For my life’s story to turn out well…

I will not give up on good, on miracles

I will not lack in courage, I’ll hold God’s word dear,

I will not live my life without His passion

I will be strong and have No Fear!

Woven Together

Standard

woven together

Woven Together

I met him under summer skies

Spring still fresh on lips, in eyes,

Untainted by life’s trials and woes

A stranger to that path, where upon hatred grows.

Tall and sturdy with russet charms

Well-muscled legs and strongest arms,

Eyes on fire, with passions lead

Hands unchained by pride or greed.

Soul perfecting life’s great call

Stout heart that understood it all,

Chest that raced, like a child at play

With a smile that took my very breath away.

A voice akin with wisdom, grace

Poised and ready to run his race,

No quest to great, no task too small

No valley to deep, no mountain too tall.

Will resolute, dream intact

Committed way beyond life’s final act,

Championed by the stars at night

Willed on by the suns prodigious light.

A poet with a mighty sword

The gift of words, his great reward,

A mighty oak amongst all others

A much trusted liege to all his brothers.

A true friend to both the young and old

The hero of the greatest story ever told,

A gentleman par excellence

A Nobel Leader with enormous influence.

The benchmark of all yet to come

A love from which, I could not outrun,

I met him under summer skies

Odysseus he is, my life’s greatest prize.

Another Day Someday…

Another Day Someday…

I’ve always wanted to reach, aspire

To birth the dreams inside my soul,

To live my life as was intended,

Taking risks, losing control.

I’ve always wanted to unearth, discover,

To travel to lands both near and far,

To taste, to hear, to see,

To follow my heart, to follow my star.

And so…

I cannot wait till Monday

To start my quest, make memories new.

You see, Tuesday was not the best time —

I had way too much to do!

I guess Wednesday was ok

But I’d already made other plans.

Oh, and Thursday was out of the question —

It’s full of deadlines and demands…

Hang on…

Friday would be my best day —

But what a week it’s been!

And Saturday I’ve planned to go shopping —

I just need a change of scene…

Don’t even mention Sunday —

That day’s exempt on Holy grounds!

I think I’d better stick to Monday

But not next Monday — that’s out of bounds…

I’ve always longed for Another Day Someday

To have my time over again.

I’ve always wanted to boldly go,

To have the courage to catch that train…

And so…

Counting Pennies

Standard

counting pennies

Counting Pennies

When the mountains tremble

And the sun opts out,

And the wind grows tired

And the sea refuses to about turn.

When the stars no longer sparkle

And the birds all cease to sing,

And the fish all leave the oceans

And we see what man’s evolution brings.

Will we still keep stiff upper lip?

Will we understand it was all bespoken?

Will we admit to all we’ve done?

The damage caused, the things we’ve broken?

When the mountains fall

And splendour ups and walks away,

And the forest pulls up its roots

And the night dominates the day.

When beauty says it’s over

And nature says we’re through,

And the rain no longer falls

And the animals start leaving two by two.

Will we just feign ignorance?

Will we take a bowl wash our hands?

Will we push the blame around?

Will we place it all in nail scared hands?

When mountains are gone

When there is no desert floor,

When life has forgotten completely

What it was it waited for.

Will be beg forgiveness?

Will we seek to mend restore?

Or will we console ourselves

By counting pennies for ever more?
